The Chinatown Public Art Plan outlines a direction for new permanent and temporary public art works in the Chinatown precinct. It has been developed alongside Chinatown’s Public Domain Plan and aims to assist in the revitalisation of the precinct by providing options for future art projects in the area.

The program is based around four core concepts: a conversation with the precinct; the symbolic heart; strengthening the edges and talking about public art. Drawing on existing art projects in key areas such as Dixon and Sussex Streets, the program supports the introduction of new public art works and pedestrian experiences that invite visitors and workers to explore the many layers and rich history of the area.

Central to the program is the recommendation to employ local and international artists to develop new public works that address the social and cultural aspects of the area and tell the stories of the contributions of Asian-Australian communities to Sydney.
