The City of Sydney carries out an ongoing Conservation Program, in addition to regular cleaning and maintenance, for works within the public art collection.

The Conservation Program involves professional conservators, artisans and specialised craftspeople, to ensure that work is of the highest quality. The philosophy and process adopted by the City has been guided by the principles of best practice, including the Burra Charter. Where possible the original artists are consulted to maintain the integrity of the artwork.

Here are the stories behind the City’s most recent major conservation projects.
