The Public Art Policy provides a clear, sustainable and forward-looking framework of principles which express the City of Sydney’s commitment to the vital role of art in the overall strategic planning of the city and the implementation of Sustainable Sydney 2030. The Public Art Policy was developed by the City of Sydney Public Art Unit and City Design Unit working with the City of Sydney Public Art Advisory Panel.

The Public Art Policy is complemented by the City Art Public Art Strategy to articulate how this commitment will take place. The City Art Public Art Strategy guides the City of Sydney in the creation of new public art works and programs.

The City Art Public Art Strategy builds on the legacy of the past, while responding to new ideas about art, story telling, interpretation and cultural expression.

The Strategy identifies a series of opportunities and approaches to providing public art ranging from community based local works in village centers across the city, to iconic new major art projects attracting business and visitors to Sydney that recognise the City of Sydney’s role as a champion of culture.
